The use of image editing to present a false narrative goes back almost to the dawn of photography itself. Image tools with generative AI will allow so much more than photo manipulation because people will be able to create images from completely new scenarios. As AI images hit the mainstream, it will open up more discussions around transparency and the need to regulate usage so news outlets and the public can better spot AI-generated and augmented images, he said. WASHINGTON (AP) — Just days after installing his new leadership team at the Republican National Committee, Donald Trump's lieutenants are cutting dozens of staff across key departments in an aggressive move that further cements the former president's takeover of the GOP's political and fundraising machinery. Take a back seat, polished gold. Your shiny and reflective surface has been looking a bit too brash recently as the matte, low-key look of brushed gold has been catching everyone’s eye. At the high jewelry presentations in January in Paris, for example, Chaumet used brushed gold to great effect in Un Air de Chaumet, a collection that was an ode to lightness and movement. The Plumes d’or tiara featured a burst of brushed and textured rose gold feathers that alternated with diamond-set white gold ones, the contrast creating a play of light. The tiara could be transformed into a brooch or a head ornament, with an asymmetrically set 2.30-carat pear-shape diamond offering a figurative interpretation of a bird.

Of all the offerings this Oscar season, one stands out: “Io Capitano.” A nominee for best international feature film, the film is a visually stunning and often harrowing account of the journey from West Africa to Europe. At a time when Italy’s far right is in government, introducing draconian anti-migrant laws amid a flood of poisonous rhetoric, “Io Capitano” represents an important intervention by its director, Matteo Garrone. Wolof dominates the script, claiming a place for a language that, though present in Italian society, has been nearly absent from Italian cinema. Yet for all its achievements, the film doesn’t tell the whole story. “Io Capitano” owes its title to the final scenes of the film in which the Senegalese protagonist, Seydou, is strong-armed into helming a rusty fishing trawler that takes him and hundreds more from Libya to Lampedusa, Italy’s southernmost island.
